Miriam Orski Memorial Scholarship
The Miriam Orski Memorial Scholarship honours our mother’s legacy by helping others, like her, fulfill their dream of experiencing March of the Living. Please make a tax deductible donation to support people participating in this transformative program.
Miriam had long yearned to walk the streets where her parents once lived and to pay tribute to them and the many family members lost in the Holocaust. In 2019, she finally took that journey—one of remembrance, connection, and profound meaning.
Miriam cared deeply for others and was always building connections. March of the Living created new and meaningful relationships and deepened her commitment to giving back to the community. It gave opportunities to honour the legacy of those lost, who had no voice or audience, to be heard today.
Mum was a quiet achiever, out of the limelight, yet she made a lasting impact on everyone she met. She loved deeply, cared endlessly and kept people close no matter where they were in the world. For her, everything was personal.
She believed our grandmother Riva - who we never had the opportunity to meet – carried a lifelong mourning too heavy to bear. Riva, who left Poland in 1939, lost her parents and her six sisters in 1942, taken from Busko Zdroj to Treblinka, never to be heard from again. Through March of the Living, they can be heard “of” again. Our collective memory honours all those our people lost.
This Scholarship will help others like Mum, fulfill their lifelong hope of paying respects, learning, connecting and to strengthening our futures. In a letter she read in Poland, she wrote to Riva:
“Despite such great loss you had the courage and the strength to brave a world without a trace of your families and build a home and a family to be proud of.”
May we all find that same strength and courage - to carry forward the memory of those who came before us, to build a better future, and to never forget.
